What is Droy.ai?
Droy.ai is a local-first AI assistant that puts you in control of your data and conversations. Unlike traditional AI assistants, all your data stays on your device, and you can choose from multiple AI providers like OpenAI, Claude, Gemini, and more.
Who is Droy.ai for?
Droy.ai is for anyone who wants an AI assistant without sacrificing privacy. Whether you're a developer, writer, researcher, or just someone who values data ownership, Droy.ai gives you the power of AI while keeping your conversations private.
How is Droy.ai different from ChatGPT or Claude?
Unlike ChatGPT or Claude web interfaces, Droy.ai stores all your conversations locally on your device. You're not locked into a single AI provider—you can switch between OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, and others. Your data belongs to you, not the AI companies.
What platforms does Droy.ai support?
Droy.ai is available as a desktop app for macOS, Windows, and Linux, a command-line interface for terminal users, and mobile apps are coming soon. All versions use the same core engine and share your data locally.
Privacy & Data
Where is my data stored?
All your conversations, context, and settings are stored locally on your device in a simple JSON format. Nothing is sent to Droy.ai servers because we don't have any. Your data never leaves your machine unless you send a message to an AI provider.
Can you see my conversations?
No. We cannot and do not see your conversations. Droy.ai runs entirely on your device. When you send a message to an AI provider like OpenAI or Claude, it goes directly from your device to them—we never see it.
How do I export or backup my data?
Your data is stored in plain JSON files in your local Droy.ai data directory (usually ~/.droy/data/). You can copy, backup, or export these files anytime. They're human-readable and not encrypted or locked in any proprietary format.
What happens to my data if I switch AI providers?
Nothing! Your conversation history and context stay with you regardless of which AI provider you use. You can switch providers mid-conversation or compare responses from different AIs without losing any data.
AI Providers & Costs
Is Droy.ai free?
Yes! Droy.ai is completely free and open source. You only pay for the AI API calls you make to providers like OpenAI or Anthropic. There are no subscriptions, usage limits, or hidden fees from us.
Which AI providers are supported?
Droy.ai supports OpenAI (GPT-4, GPT-3.5), Anthropic (Claude), Google (Gemini), xAI (Grok), Groq, Ollama (for local models), and any OpenAI-compatible API. You can add multiple providers and switch between them anytime.
Do I need API keys for AI providers?
Yes, you'll need API keys from the AI providers you want to use (like OpenAI or Anthropic). This means you pay them directly for usage—no middleman. For local models via Ollama, no API key is needed.
Can I use local AI models?
Yes! Droy.ai supports Ollama, which lets you run open-source AI models locally on your device. This means completely private, offline AI conversations with no API costs. Just install Ollama and add it as a provider in Droy.ai.
Technical
Is Droy.ai open source?
Yes! Droy.ai is completely open source and available on GitHub. You can review the code, contribute improvements, report issues, or even fork it to create your own version.
Does Droy.ai work offline?
The app itself works offline for managing conversations and settings. However, you need an internet connection to send messages to cloud AI providers. If you use Ollama with local models, you can have fully offline AI conversations.
Can I sync my data across devices?
Currently, data is stored locally per device. We're exploring secure sync options that maintain privacy, but for now, you can manually backup and transfer your data directory (~/.droy/data/) between devices.
What if I have technical issues?
Check our documentation at docs.droy.ai, search existing GitHub issues, or open a new issue. The community is active and helpful. Since it's open source, you can also dive into the code to troubleshoot.
